This iconic and mint Merrythought Beefeater Guardsman has formed body/clothing made of felt. An embroided white Queens Crown is attached to his chest. This is a rare and difficult to find bear!
He stands 18 inches tall in his black ruffled Tudor bonnet. He features a velvet costume trimmed in grosgrain ribbon. His uniform is in impeccable condition including the white Elizabethan style collar. His face, back of his paws and his feet are made from soft golden mohair and he has wool felt feet and paw pads. He has orange eyes with black pupils, an extended muzzle, embroidered nose, and stitched mouth. His original yellow cloth Merrythought tag is on his right foot. He also has his paper Merrythought Hygenic Toys tag.
Note that he is different from most of the Merrythought Beefeater Guardsman bears that look like this on the web. There are newer bears that look somewhat like this, but don't have the embroided Queens Crown. THIS IS A 1982 VINTAGE BEAR.
This Merrythought bear is very collectible due to its wonderful character, being made of mohair, and also made in England.
Note that he is NOT a jointed bear. He has not been played with or displayed but has been in storage in my Mom's collection of 1980's bears.
You do not see many of these for sale - just try a web or an EBay search! What a wonderful collectible British Bear!!! For an avid Merrythought teddy bear collector this 1982 vintage bear would be quite a stunning addition to their collection.
